Member of the Month: Jackie Dierks Congratulations on Member of the Month Jackie! Thank you so much for choosing me for Member of the Month. I am both flattered and honored. So, what brought you to CrossFit ? A good friend (Jill Pope) brought me to CrossFit. I really didn’t think I would be able to do it but she convinced me to try it out. I attended a class with her and surprised myself that I was able to do it after all. I really enjoyed the workout so much, more than any other work out I had done in the past. How long have you been CrossFitting? I have been CrossFitting for two years. I never left after that first workout. What made me continue is the fact that I compete against myself and it never gets easier. It continues to be a challenge every time even though you get better you are still challenged. I love that you compete against yourself. There may be people that are much better than you which is a great motivator and something to work towards to get better but everyone works on their own level to improve. What are some of your goals? Have they been met? My goals are simple. I want to get stronger and continue to change my body composition. When I started CrossFit, I was using the 15 pound bar and 5 pound weights. I have come a long way from that in the past two years. I continue to challenge myself with heavier weights on every movement. Benefits you have noticed? Any changes to brag about? I always say that I thought I was in good shape until I came to CrossFit. I have always worked out but have never experienced what I experience now with CrossFit. What I love about it is that it pushes you to a point that you would never push yourself on your own. I am still amazed at the end of a workout what I was able to accomplish. I never thought I would be able to do what I do today. What do you do out there in the real world? I am retired after a successful career at Hewlett Packard. I am very fortunate to be able to just enjoy my life with my husband traveling and just doing what we want to do. A much deserved situation after years of hard work from both of us. Your favorite WOD? My favorite WOD is a chipper WOD. I like doing many different movements in a WOD versus the same movement repeated. Anything to add? I love doing CrossFit. I attend 4-5 times per week. I never have to convince myself to go as I look forward to it every day. The best thing about CrossFit for me is that I am coached by the best coaches to push myself to my limit but at the same time not get injured. Injury is a huge factor for me and this is something I am so impressed with from all of the coaches at Tidal Wave and Mainland, they push us all to our limit but always have injury free as a priority. Crossfit has become a way of life for me. I have improved myself and continue to do so. I have met so many great people and have been so impressed with their skills. I can’t imagine ever not doing CrossFit and hopefully by continuing to do it, I will always be able to do so.
