Member Spotlight: Cindy Stanton

cindi-1 Cindy has been with us for well over a year now. She is constantly seeking to improve and has really kicked it up a notch this last few months coming to loads of workshops all while being super supportive to newer members at the facility. For these reasons Cindy deserves our Member Spotlight. Tell us a little bit about yourself? I’m a 51 year old Grandmother, just trying to keep fit and stay young. cindi-2 How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get into it? I was a marathon runner for many years until an injury. The foot doctor told me to find something else to do, so I thought I’d give CrossFit a try. I honestly didn’t think I would like it, but I’ve been addicted since the very first day in April 2015. And now I hate running! cindi-5 What were your thoughts after your first CF workout? I thought I was going to die after the first workout, but I felt so great afterwards. Everybody was so motivating and encouraging. I immediately felt at home. What were your goals when joining CrossFit Tidal Wave? My goals are to get stronger and stay healthy. You’ve improved tremendously since starting with us. Talk to us about that and what got and kept you motivated. My CrossFit Tidal Wave peeps keep me motivated. It’s great to see others PR and that pushes me to work harder and try new things. Also, since we work out as a group and usually have a set time to work out, it keeps me accountable because the others in the class are expecting me to be there. Whenever I miss, I feel so guilty and it literally makes me feel down for the rest of the day. What has been the biggest obstacle in your journey? At first, I had a hard time not comparing myself to others. I finally realized that we are all on different levels and as long as I am progressing myself, it doesn’t matter where the others are at. cindi-3 Do you have any special memories/achievements during your time here? I couldn’t believe I was actually talked into signing up for the CrossFit Open this year. It was one of the hardest things ever, but I survived and I didn’t suck! Favorite WOD/ least favorite WOD: I actually don’t have a favorite WOD, but I will tell you that Wallballs & Burpees are Evil! What advice do you have for people just getting started? Don’t be intimidated by what others can do. Just take it one day at a time, learn as much as you can and have fun!cindi-4]]>
