Glenita Segura: Athlete Spotlight

Glenita Segura: Athlete Spotlight 022115_RowClinic-9972 This Month CrossFit Tidal Wave in Galveston would like to honor our own “Nita” for her amazing dedication to bettering herself. Nita is nothing but a pleasure to work with and her hard work truly shows. So, what brought you to CrossFit Tidal Wave/Mainland?  My son thought I would like the CrossFit workouts and in particular the staff and environment at Tidal Wave. What made you stay?  I have stayed because he was right.  I like the variety and scalability of the workouts.  Shaun encourages you to be a better you without pressure.  Everyone at Tidal Wave is supportive and non-judgmental.  I like that safety is a priority. How long have you been CrossFitting?  I have been going to CrossFit Tidal Wave since January 2014. What are some of your goals?  Originally my goals were to lose weight and to not hurt myself.  Now my goals are to continue to lose inches, go to the gym at least 3 days a week, make better choices when I eat and don’t hurt myself.  I would also like to be able to do an unassisted pull up some day. Have they been met? I have lost quite a few inches but I still have a ways to go. I have changed some eating habits but the sweet stuff is hard to give up. nita 2 Best lifts? Deadlift.  I feel very accomplished with this lift.  When I started I could only lift 160 lbs and now my 1 rep max is 255 lbs. Benefits you have noticed? I am not as tired as I used to be.  My clothes definitely fit differently.  I feel more confident in my ability to handle physical challenges that may come up every day (especially with the mother-in-law around). What do you do out there in the real world? I volunteer as a Ball High School Band booster.  I work in Grants and Contracts Accounting at UTMB. Your favorite WOD?  Anything without a burpee or any form of a burpee and a WOD that includes rowing. Biggest CrossFit Accomplishment?  Being part of the rowing championship team and competing in my 1st in-house competition. Any changes to brag about? I have dropped one shirt and pant size and I can walk in two 4 mile parades in one day without feeling like I’m going to die. Anything else to add?  I am so glad my son convinced me to give Tidal Wave a try.  I have always felt welcome, supported, encouraged and challenged to be the best I can be.]]>
